BIG BANG SCIENCE FAIR!

Once again we have had a fantastic school trip to the Big Bang science fair at the NEC.

BIG BANG

During our time there we were able to take part in a range of scientific experiments.  Here we have build a range of structures (spaceship launch pad and a bridge). The scientists at the fair, tested their strength with an earthquake machine. Luckily, it survived. So, we though it only fair to award ourselves a 1st place prize!

Deforestation must end!

We have has a particularly fun well looking at deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest. Students were given the facts, then after two weeks of building up their skills they were asked to write a persuasive letter to stop a company from practicing deforestation. Here of some of the quotes from their work.

“England is an animal-loving country, however these heinous actions, you heinous actions could lead to their extinction.” -Annaika

“Your actions towards these lovely, innocent creatures is not acceptable. Tearing animals’ homes down is not the answer for you problems.” Aarya.

“Everybody knows that for years their [tribes] ancestors lived there and now they are being moved away. This is disgraceful!” – Zach

You have convinced me year 4!

Food chains

This week in science we have been looking at animals and their habitats. We found it particularly fun when we began to research food chains. Here’s why…

Yesterday we were all given a role in the food chain. We were either producers (plants), herbivores (plant eaters), omnivores (plant and meat eaters) or carnivores (meat eaters). We looked at how each part of the food chain gains its energy, by consuming. Not only this but we also looked at the impact upon a food chain if an element was removed from it and realised the importance of each part of this chain

Harvey was a fungi and he was able to get his energy from all the dead plants and animals.

Anti-bullying week

Say no to bullying!

This week in Year 4, we have been looking at the impact of bullying. We have been thinking carefully about how bullying can affect the bullies as well as the victims. The children of Year 4 have demonstrated a high level of maturity and sensitivity around the topic, clearly reflecting the empathy shown by children at Hill West Primary School.

Below are some of the posters that Year 4 have been creating to spread the message and help end bullying!

Roman Wroxeter City

We have had a fantastic day learning about the Romans at Wroxeter city in Shrewsbury.

After a coach ride, comprising of 50 minutes of Christingle songs, we finally arrived at our destination. We were greeted by a real (not so real) Roman lady, who showed us around her old city. We were treated like slaves, marched for our lunch and experienced a real Roman toilet. It is safe to say that we will remember today for a long time to come!
